How to get more Instagram followers by creating separate accounts based on topic

Are you trying to gain more followers on Instagram? Do you have a wide range of interests, some of which may not necessarily be related to each other in the slightest? Then you may have wondered if it’s better to have a single Instagram account or to create an account focused around each of your interests. Although having multiple accounts may complicate management to some extent, Instagram introduced a multiple-account feature in its mobile app last year, which means it’s a hell of a lot easier than it was previously.

If you you’re in the same boat as I am, you currently have one Instagram account where you’ve posted a mishmash of photos without any consistent theme other than the fact that you found it interesting or appear in the photo personally. That’s great for people who know you personally, or for people who by some coincidence share all of the exact same interests, but what if you’re trying to increase the scope of your target audience? Well, there’s only one way to find out if having multiple targeted accounts is better than a single all encompassing one. I’m trying it out and sharing the results with you.

My Instagram account @kendevo currently has 5,962 followers. I previously followed about 7,000 people, but decided a few months ago that I would rather limit my feed to people and topics that I truly care about. After this cleanse, my follower count has been steadily dropping at the rate of about 60 followers monthly (stats by Social Blade). I assume these are mainly people who noticed that I am no longer following them, and people who followed me because I posted a photo related to something they’re interested in but then post too many content that they do not relate with. Fair enough, it’s only logical. I wouldn’t stick around for photos of someone’s cat either if I signed up for fitness motivation.

Considering I have posted only once every three days on average for the rolling year, I cannot be considered a social media addict. Because of this, and since I want to avoid the hassle of switching between accounts all the time, I would like to keep using my main account as a hub. My original idea was to post all content to this account, and based on the hash-tags, automatically re-post the content to sub-accounts. This would be useful not only because it makes things easier, and because otherwise the main account would be deprived of content, but also because some content fits into multiple categories. For instance, when I practice several sports at once. Unfortunately, it seems services like IFTTT and Zapier do not support actions for Instagram since its terms of service do not allow automated posting.

If you’re planning to separate your Instagram accounts based on interest as well, I’d recommend spending a few minutes writing these out to see how related they are, what type of content you will publish, and how much interest there is for each of the topics. Here is my breakdown as an example;

  • #Fitness: 226,430,148 posts – This will include training and progress photos as well as recipes for healthy meals.
  • #AcroYoga: 1,533,565 posts – This would also encompass #Yoga since it’s encompassed by AcroYoga and matches for the query.
  • #Slackline: 808,028 posts – Photos and videos related to slacklining of course!

Anything that doesn’t fit specifically in any of these categories would be posted to the main account until there is enough content to merit a sub-account.

To be continued as I look for a tool which would allow me to automatically post to multiple accounts at once…

Interview with Roxey Mcloo — Jack of all trades master of some?

Roxey Mcloo is a 24-year old model residing in Blanquillo, Durazno, Uruguay.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am a native Colorado pup born in Boulder Colorado, I’m half mutt, a 1/4 Slovak, and got some french and chitimatcha in me. I always wanted to be knowledgeable about something the way my big bro knows all about cars and mechanics. My dad is an amazing nobody from Kansas, who never graduated college and lived life as an artist and VW mechanic, my mom is a High School dropout from Fairview high who carved her way in the world despite accidentally becoming my mom when she was 19. She’s got huge saggy boobs and grows a dark mustache under nose naturally, which are two traits I’ve always been proud of and loved her for, because they make her uniquely her. My dad ended up becoming a dental assistant in the military and became very sick from Mercury poisoning, he’s been challenged by his health and ongoing shooting pains as long as I can remember, and therefore doesn’t get out much. He used to be an artist in Boulder until I came around.

I grew up dirt poor in a trailer with an outhouse and no running water in Cotopaxi, Co. I would totally do it again too! I had the great privilege of having my mom and father available to me, we couldn’t afford stuff, or food very well either, but generally always got by. I played Soccer for 8 years, became lazy and paunchy and soo friggin inflexible after I quit due to some chronic knee pain from an underdevelopment of my quads and lack of development in my Sartorious. I started to have really bad knee pain and quit soccer but not the athletic diet I had. I started dancing Argentine Tango when I was 15 about to be 16, I have a BS, I know ASL -American Sign Language- Spanish and some German; I teach Pole fitness, I have my cosmetology license, and I’ve always struggled with reading and comprehension, but I love math and am a totally movie buff, star trek geek, and I love to play video games!

Roxey Mcloo in the countrysideWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

A friend of a friend was modeling, back when I was 11 and had me go with her on a shoot, the photographer actually thought I was a total dud at first, then he took us back to the studio and became impressed with my expression of self as we got to raid his modeling closet of clothing. From there I always enjoyed being in front of the lens and slowly built my confidence in myself. I really had no concept of self image and was regularly surprised when any boy would take interest in me. I was used to being called a slut for having cartridge piercings in my ears, I wore boxers, baggy jeans and loose t-shirts, growing up. I’ve always had a knack for body language, and have always been involved in the arts, I am more of a drawer and a sketcher at heart and have found the new confidence in myself to peruse tattooing.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

After trying to have children for three-ish years, I’ve shifted my focus and bought a puppydog for the 1st time and plan to continue my work with health and well being and inspire confidence in one’s own image and beauty, my husband and I are hoping to open a gym or life fitness center that shares our love and passion for life and well being. I’m an aspiring tattoo artist so I imagine that should pick up in 5 years as well. My newest endeavor is my work as a model and a hair make up artist for Nika P Photography. I plan to continue connecting with people and inspiring them to be their best. So performing for pole dancing, aerial silks, Argentine Tango, traveling, dancing, eating and meeting other fun loving quality of life enthusiasts.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

As far as the modeling world goes I’m still a nobody, I mostly enjoy creating beauty, My husband is a photographer so I get spoiled with the opportunity to model for him, I haven’t done anything too main stream, thus far but am making my way athletically and do modeling more on the side, most the time it consists of studio creativity or on-site city walking around and using unique backgrounds, I love doing funky and old things as well.

Roxey Mcloo dancing tangoIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yeah, I’ve found there are a lot of egos in any of the Art worlds, and if I had the magical power of granting wishes, I would hope people would treat each other more respectfully, and not just to conclusion and be so attached to their assumptions of people, but I usually keep that to myself.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I love health and nutrition! It’s been an intellectual pursuit as well as an ongoing lifestyle. I don’t believe in quick fixes or dieting, I believe in healthy and thoughtful living, I do my best to be well and respect my food and the sources it comes from. I personally avoid cigarettes, and believe in feeling out what feels good for me to eat in the right moment, it’s always been a matter of common sense and forth coming effort to treating my body good. I regularly practice Bikram Yoga, I teach pole fitness and dance, as well as Argentine Tango and recently have connected with Awaken Gymnastics, I love dancing and moving and stretching.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I have never been shit faced drunk. and I often enjoy awkward moments, umm also most people fail to notice I have freckle on my lip, like the pink part, not the ‘skin’ part, oh, and I love blueberries. Like Hard core.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Nothing really, and I say nothing simply because I believe in loving and accepting myself for where I’m at in life, and I fail miserably a lot of the time, but such is life right? just gotta keep trying and keep on keeping on, I always say expect the worst and hope for the best and be happy either way or do something about it rather then waste energy on complaining.

Have you ever gone without wearing underwear all day? Why & what did you do?

I did it yesterday, the breeze was great, I just might do it again.

Interview with Naomi Ondrey

Naomi Ondrey is an up-and-coming 21-year old model from Apache Junction (Arizona). Here is the story she shared with me:

Do you have a nickname or artist pseudonym? Who came up with it and how?

I have lots of cool nicknames around town! My friends (and photographers) tend to call me some abbreviated variation of my name (Nay-Nay, Na-Na, Nomes, etc.). My nieces and nephews usually call me Nomi or Nummy, and my mommy has a jewelry line named after me called Omi-wear…because “I make it…Omi wears it!” 🙂

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I started modeling because of my brother. He’s a year and a half older than me and easily my best friend! Since we were little, everything we’ve done has been a big competition. Who can do it first, and who can do it better. So when he started modeling…I had to jump in and show him what was up. 😉

Naomi Ondrey - In yellow caution tapeWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

My goals are hard to explain…honestly my biggest goal is to just always push myself to the next biggest thing. I never want to just settle or be “okay” I want to thrive in the life I live.
In 5 years I hope to be bigger into modeling….hopefully more fitness modeling, be running my own personal training business, maybe get into acting. I guess I really will just have to see where the current takes me!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Best: I have met SOO many amazing people in this industry! It isn’t at all what everyone thinks, sure there are some not so classy individuals…but for the most part, everyone is looking out for everyone else and we’re all just here to have fun and create something beautiful and lasting!

Worst: I absolutely ADORE (sarcasm) when I get to a shoot and someone on set says something along the lines of “so… You’re Naomi?! … you don’t look ANYTHING like your pictures!” (which I really do. I ask that my photos aren’t edited excessively, since I still want them to be genuine. There are really just some harsh people in this industry. The rudeness is really the worst part, but that’s really with people in general. I just shrug it off and move on.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

The most out of the ordinary thing was probably a photography workshop event I worked in Vegas a couple years back. I was supposed to fly out of Phoenix the night before, but I missed my flight, my bags had already left ahead of me, and my ride was an hour away. So I decided I would take the bus. It was walking distance, but security wouldn’t allow it, so I paid 16 dollars for a two minute ride, to hide in the bathroom from some very sketchy individuals. Finally got on the bus…and it delayed 2 hours. Halfway to Vegas, the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and almost tipped the bus, the proceeded to pretend nothing happened. After a VERY long, sleepless, and foodless night I rolled into Vegas JUST in time to jump into the chair for hair and make-up, immediately after we rolled out to the middle of the desert to shoot all day, and about halfway through the day I passed out and came to with a friend of mine literally shoving a PB&J down my throat saying “you really should eat something” lol later that night I saw some of the pictures and didn’t remember them because I was that far out of it…but they looked good…so it worked out ha 🙂

Naomi Ondrey - Sitting in a stairwellIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Just the stereotypical things….rudeness, attitude, girls starving themselves to play a part. I’ve found modeling to be a creative outlet for me, paying the bills is just a bonus! It shouldn’t be all about the money or having to be a certain person. It should be like minded people creating beautiful art to share, regardless of what your version of art is.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t play and sports, I just love to work out and play in general. I love being in the gym and being outdoors. If I’m gunna sweat or get covered in dirt, I’ll do it with a smile! I eat healthy for the most part; fruits, vegetables, lean meats, etc. but don’t kid yourself. I love me some DQ or Dominoes every now and again 😉

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Most people don’t know that I’m an all-star singer… but only when I’m alone in the car.

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

Absolutely not! Sure, I have my flaws, and I would love to gain a cup size or two 😉 but I am exactly what God made me to be. The people in my life who are close enough to see my flaws still think I’m beautiful, so why would I think any differently?

Three day Low-Carb High-carb cycle

I thought I’d share my current meal plan with you. It’s low on carbohydrates the first three days of the week while I focus mostly on cardio rather than strength. During this period I’m eating about 500 calories below maintenance in order to lose fat. The next three days are high in carbs and calories as I ramp up resistance exercise with the intent of building muscle. The images were produced using DailyBurn Tracker which is a great way to keep track of your calorie and macro-nutrient intake for free. If you want to track sugar consumption as well as some micro-nutrients, you will want to upgrade to the premium version but for most people the free plan should work just fine.

Low-Carb: Monday through Wednesday

DailyBurn low-carb

High-Carb: Thursday through Saturday

Volkswagen Catwalk

I was invited to participate in a presentation organized by Volkswagen at Hotel Nizuc. The concession holders were all invited, from all over Mexico. They had hired 6 models to form couples: executives, parents and a casual couple on a holiday at the beach. These represented the typical customers of the new Volkswagen being presented. The video was very well edited and I was glad when we revealed the cars exactly on cue. We had only had a few hours the day before to prepare. Today, even though we arrived two hours before the actual event, we couldn’t do any rehearsals since the Volkswagen invitees were already present.

As you can see in the photo they had a ramp and a rotating platform set-up, which according to word of mouth they brought all the way from Mexico City. However, some top level director didn’t like it and they tore everything down. No more rotating cars, they were just parked there and we pulled of the curtains. It’s always painful to see when someone puts in a lot of effort just to have the boss tear it down for whatever reason. I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer stationary cars over them driving up, being spun 360 degrees and driving off again. That would’ve been a lot more impressive.
